Message for my Parents - Yoshie Kurokawa

All I want to say is
"Thank you for continuing to have expectations for me."

-What feelings would you like to convey to your parents now?
I just want to express my sincere gratitude. I am aware that I have received so much support from my parents that I can't fully put into words. Especially during my freshman year when I was taking online classes from my parents' home in Fukuoka because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they listened to me when I was feeling down and even gave me stern advice. At that time, I was actually considering transferring to another faculty, but when my parents told me, 'Are you sure to give it up here?' I suddenly recalled all the efforts I had made so far, and I realized that I had been working harder than I thought. Now, as a fourth-year student, what I want to convey is a heartfelt thank you for not giving up on me and continuing to have expectations for me.
-How was your high school life?
During high school, I was fortunate to have good friends and enjoyed my days. In the brass band club, I had the dual roles of being the leader of the French horn section and a student conductor. I struggled with the extracurricular morning classes starting at 7:30, and I was very shocked when I learned that it was a school culture unique to the Kyushu area.
-What has changed since entering FILA?
I learned that if you give it a try, things will work out somehow. For example, I used to be scared of classes that involved group work and presentations, especially in an environment where most people were international students. However, when I actually attended these classes, I found unexpected support from professors and classmates around me, and I had experiences of overcoming those fears. Additionally, the words a friend said, "Well, even if we make a mistake, it's not like we're going to die," had an impact on me. People can manage to some extent in any difficult situation, and since we won't easily collapse, we must find a way to overcome. I feel like I have developed this kind of resilience.
After entering FILA, I have experienced hardship and loneliness many times. I also had several friends who were struggling and suffering in the same way. Nevertheless, I was able to genuinely broaden my perspective internationally and improve my English skills. FILA is a challenging faculty where there is both success and growth, but there are also challenges, failures, and pains. I hope those hardships will turn into the nourishment of my life.

Message for the prospective students
The person who knows your personality and situation the best is yourself. Therefore, I believe it is crucial to conduct a thorough self-analysis, and not worrying about others' opinions helps build your self-confidence. Keep up the good work!
