Message for my Parents

My parent's words "You can definitely overcome this"
became a source of support for my heart.

-What feelings would you like to convey to your parents now?
I truly appreciate the support of my parents. Without their support, I wouldn't have been tried on two study-abroad experiences during my university years. When the first study abroad program was abruptly canceled due to the impact of the pandemic, my parents stood by me and encouraged me in my moments of sadness. When I expressed the desire to pursue another study abroad opportunity, they were initially worried due to the ongoing pandemic, but ultimately understood my feelings and encouraged me.
Throughout my time abroad, they consistently stayed in touch, expressing concern for my health and supporting me during the unfamiliar experience of living in a shared house. Upon my return to Japan, when I faced to challenging situation in job hunting and achieving a satisfactory TOEFL score, they reassured me with words like, "You've gained various experiences, so you can definitely overcome this. We're cheering you on." Their encouragement played a crucial role in helping me successfully overcome those challenges.

-How was your high school life?
I had been studying diligently in an advanced class. During a school trip to Canada, I had my first conversation with someone from a foreign country and was moved by the fact that even with my basic English, I could communicate. From that point on, I desired to explore more diverse perspectives, so I dedicated myself to studying relentlessly in order to be admitted to a globally diverse university.

-What has changed since entering FILA?
I believe my English proficiency and communication skills have particularly improved. Until entering university, opportunities for exposure to English were limited to school lessons, so initially, I lacked confidence in my English communication abilities. I struggled to express my opinions effectively in English. However, through academic English classes and actively talking with international students, I gradually have more confidence in articulating my thoughts in English. Additionally, I feel that my overall communication skills, including how to steer conversations to keep other people lively, have also expanded.

-What are your most memorable experiences in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts?
One memorable experience was overcoming various challenges with my friends. When we turned to sophomore, we faced disruptions such as the cancellation of overseas study programs and the shift to fully online classes due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, creating a student life vastly different from our freshman year. During that time, I sometimes felt depressed or worried about how to learn English. However, even amid these challenges, staying in regular contact with friends allowed us to mutually inspire each other. They not only provided support during difficult times but also assisted me in classes. The presence of these friends has been truly significant, and I am deeply grateful for their support.
