【FILA】Special Lecture by Professor from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania!

On Monday, June 10th, Professor Ichiro Sugimoto, who teaches "Intermediate Macroeconomics," invited Professor Karen Lewis from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania as a guest speaker. She delivered a special lecture titled "Sovereign Debt Sustainability and International Investor Composition."

Sovereign Debt refers to the funds borrowed by the government for public services and projects, which is one of the important roles of the government. Professor Karen Lewis explained, through historical examples, that good debt supports economic stability while bad debt burdens future generations. She discussed borrowing methods, types of debt holders, and debt sustainability. Through empirical analysis, she revealed that non-bank investors currently play an important role in public debt in emerging countries and have a significant impact on sustainability.

Professor Karen Lewis introduced the founder's guidance during the lecture, stating that "Economics are vitally important and should be based on a sound philosophy." After the special lecture, she took commemorative photos with participating students and had discussions with President Masashi Suzuki and Vice President Masaru Osanai. She also answered the remaining students' questions diligently, making it a wonderful learning opportunity.
