Message for my Parents - Yuki Yamada

Encouraged by my parents,
I realized that "I am not fighting alone."

-What feelings would you like to convey to your parents now?
I want to express my gratitude by saying, "Thank you always." Honestly, I think I have caused them a lot of worry in various aspects such as my studies, club activities, and daily life. However, my parents have always patiently supported me. Although my father is usually quiet, he kindly gave me words of encouragement when I was troubled. My mother has always shown great consideration and care. Thanks to the support of my parents, I have been able to enjoy a truly fulfilling and enjoyable university life.

-Do you have any memorable experiences with your parents during your student life?
There were many instances where I was supported, but the most memorable was achieving TOEFL required score. I was a bit late in obtaining the required score for graduation and continued to challenge myself and study for the TOEFL until the winter of my graduation year. Every day, I shuttled between the university, home, and the local library. Amidst the constant tension, anxiety, and impatience, I received an e-gift with a message from my mother that said, "You're doing great! I'm so proud of you. I'll keep cheering you on!" This message not only encouraged me immensely but also made me realize that I wasn't fighting alone. It strengthened my resolve to keep studying hard.
-How was your high school life?
When I was a first-year high school student, I was often absent from school. However, in my second and third years of high school, I was fortunate to have good teachers and enjoyed a fun high school life. Although my school was a metropolitan preparatory school with a strong focus on academics, I often went out with friends after school instead of studying. As a result, I had a very difficult time during the unviersity entrance exam period.
-What has changed since entering FILA?
I believe I have developed the ability to persevere until the end. Before entering university, I often avoided facing difficult or challenging situations directly and had a tendency to run away from them. However, after enrolling at Soka University, by deliberately placing myself in environments where I had to confront these challenges, I learned to face things seriously. This helped me cultivate the ability to complete what I set out to do and to develop a sense of responsibility.

-What are your most memorable experiences in FILA?
One thing I believe I will never forget is achieving the TOEFL score required for graduation. Obtaining the graduation requirement scores was truly challenging. I struggled to achieve them according to plan, had to take a leave of absence, and made several attempts in the graduation year, but each time, I could not achieve the graduation requirement with a few more scores. However, I never gave up. With the support of professors, friends, and family, I studied diligently in every spare moment. As a result, I not only achieved the required score but surpassed my goal by a large margin, achieving a victory over myself.
Message for the prospective students
At first glance, things that may seem like failures or setbacks often carry meaningful lessons, and there will always come a day when those lessons bear fruit in your life. So, no matter what challenges lie ahead, believe in yourself and keep pushing forward! I'll always be cheering you on!
