Why did you choose Soka University and FILA?
Before studying abroad through FILA, I had never been overseas, but I had a strong admiration for overseas because I loved foreign movies and music. I also wanted to experience firsthand the realities of both developing and developed countries, which sparked my interest in learning English.
With those aspirations in mind, I participated in campus open day events and trial classes at various universities. I was drawn to Soka University’s rich international environment and the fact that FILA guarantees study abroad opportunities for all students, as well as the immersive All-English curriculum. That’s when I decided to apply.
What are your impressions of student life at FILA?
Honestly, it has been far more enjoyable than I imagined. Of course, I was initially nervous since all the classes are conducted in English, but everyone feels the same way at first. That’s why we work on assignments together late into the night and help each other with things we don’t understand.
Living in the dorms has also been a great opportunity to build friendships with international students who entered FILA with me, as well as with exchange students, which has helped me develop practical English skills. The friendships I’ve built so far have become a true treasure in my university life.

What skills have you developed by joining FILA?
By joining FILA, I’ve learned to view things from a broader, more comprehensive perspective. FILA is home to classmates and professors from various countries, and through interacting with them, my sense of values has greatly expanded. I’ve become more aware of the importance of tackling problems from the viewpoints of diverse cultures and perspectives.
Additionally, the All-English environment naturally helps me build a solid foundation in English. As my ability to speak English improved, I gained confidence, which encouraged me to actively engage with those around me. I believe this experience has also helped me develop my social skills.
Please give a message to prospective international students!
What’s most important is how much you can believe in the path you’ve chosen for yourself without being swayed by others. There will be times when you feel tempted to hang out with friends or think it’s okay to take a break for the day. However, everyone has their own situations, and no one else will take responsibility for your future.
That’s why it’s essential not to blame your environment but to face what you need to do head-on and give it your all so that you have no regrets. I sincerely look forward to meeting you in this wonderful place of learning.
