Why did you choose Soka University and FILA?

When I visited Soka University before, I was deeply impressed by the warmth and kindness of the students, which sparked a sense of admiration within me. Additionally, my strong interest in English and other languages, as well as in different cultures, began during my high school years. I was drawn to Soka University because of its diverse student body, including many international students, and the global environment that fosters a deeper understanding of different cultures. I was also attracted to the unique features of FILA, where I can pursue a wide range of studies in English. These factors led me to choose Soka University’s Faculty of International Liberal Arts as my academic path.

What are your impressions of student life at FILA?

In my first year, I had great concerns about my English ability and living away from home for the first time, but I was able to overcome these challenges by meeting friends and peers within the faculty who supported each other in learning. Soka University has a diverse group of international students, both within and outside the FILA, which has provided me with numerous opportunities to learn about different cultures in my daily life. Additionally, the faculty members in the FILA come from various countries and cultural backgrounds, so I have many opportunities to experience different cultures through my classes. As for my English skills, in my first year, I was able to improve my ability through the support of faculty members and friends in the program, and prepare for studying abroad in the first half of my second year. The small class sizes also make it easy to make friends and engage in many interactions, so overall, it is a very close-knit faculty.

What skills have you developed by joining FILA?

All of the courses offered in the FILA are taught in English, which allows me to continually improve my English skills. Initially, I felt a high barrier to conversing with others in English, but now I can enjoy conversations naturally and without much resistance, which I consider a great personal achievement. Additionally, the environment at Soka University, which allows me to interact with diverse cultures, has broadened my perspectives. I have become more flexible and able to think from multiple angles when approaching various issues.

What is your future plan?

I would like to pursue a career in the healthcare industry, which I have always been deeply interested in, while utilizing the language skills and communication abilities I have developed through my experiences at the FILA and Soka University. Currently, I am interested in a job as a Medical Representative (MR), and in the future, I hope to support the health of people not only in Japan but around the world. Additionally, I aim to engage in activities addressing global social issues and contribute to the world as a person who can make a positive impact on a global scale.

Please give a message to prospective international students!

At this point in your journey of choosing your future path, it’s completely natural to have many worries and uncertainties. However, the efforts you're putting into your daily activities will never be in vain. There will come a time when you look back and think, "I’m so glad I worked hard during that time!" Growth always comes after challenges. The hard work you are putting in now will become an invaluable asset for you in the future. Even though you may face many internal struggles, as someone who has experienced exams myself, I wholeheartedly admire your efforts and achievements. I am cheering for your great success and growth, and I look forward to welcoming you to Soka University!
