Exploring Japan's circular economy through collaboration with Center for Malaysian studies and confirming future inter-university cooperation.

A delegation led by Dr. Suhaiza Hanim, Director of the Ungku Aziz Centre for Development Studies, a globally recognized research institute at the University of Malaya, visited Japan to observe initiatives related to circular economy practices in connection with a large-scale research project titled "Establishing a Circular Economy Framework in Malaysia," conducted in collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of Economy.

The delegation was hosted by the Center for Malaysian Studies at Soka University. On the 20th, Ichiro Sugimoto, the Center's representative, explained its initiatives and expressed hopes for multifaceted collaboration in education and research. This was followed by a lecture by Professor Kakegawa of the Faculty of Economics on ""Current Status and Challenges of the Circular Economy in Japan (Policy-Focused) and Soka University's Initiatives" which prompted lively discussions with participants.

The delegation also held discussions with President Suzuki and Vice Chairperson Akiya, where they deliberated on strengthening mutual collaboration. During the meeting, President Suzuki shared an anecdote about the university's founder, Daisaku Ikeda, being welcomed by the then Vice Chancellor, Ungku Aziz, during a visit to the University of Malaya in 1988. He remarked, "It is deeply significant to collaborate with a research center named after the esteemed economist Ungku Aziz."

Director Suhaiza expressed her desire to further deepen educational and research collaboration with Soka University, reaffirming the commitment to future partnerships. This visit is expected to serve as a catalyst for promoting academic exchanges between Malaysia and Japan even further.
