Why did you choose Soka University and FILA?
The reason I chose Soka University was the quality of the pedagogy and the value-creating education offered at the institute. Soka University provided an opportunity for me to practice global citizenship education in action. I chose to enroll in FILA not only because of the study abroad opportunity, which broadens the horizons of a student, but also because FILA prepared us to be capable global leaders in society.

What is the best memory you have about FILA?
My best memory in FILA is the everyday classes with fellow FILA classmates. Despite the rigorous work involved in attending classes like English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Academic Foundations (AF), and Cross-Cultural Understanding (CCU), I enjoyed every single moment of interacting with classmates and working together to finish assignments before the due date.
What did you learn in FILA?
FILA provided me with the necessary skills to become a global leader in society. I learned about various fields of study and developed leadership skills. Special appreciation goes to my academic advisor. Through her guidance, I learned, unlearned, and relearned concepts that challenged my previous understanding. This process is essential for a global leader—to break down prejudice and stereotypes, and to acknowledge and reflect on what can be improved.
I always appreciate the opportunity to bond with fellow FILA classmates, seniors, and juniors. FILA is a wonderful program that brings everyone together, and we often use the phrase “FILA Family” to describe that close-knit connection. I’m especially grateful to the FILA Student Council for initiating so many team-bonding activities that helped strengthen those relationships.
Please tell us your story after your graduation from FILA.
After my graduation from FILA, I continued my journey at the Graduate School of Educational Leadership and Societal Change at Soka University of America (SUA). Time flies—I recently graduated from SUA in May 2025. During my time there, I realized that what I learned in FILA helped me handle rigorous academic work, complete my master’s thesis, and build the confidence to attend renowned academic conferences. After earning my master’s degree, I received a job offer within just one month of graduation.
Now I am working as a purchaser under supply chain management and translator for a Japanese company based in Malaysia.
Why and how did you choose your current job?
The reason I chose my current job is that I wanted to express my gratitude to Soka University by applying what I learned there to contribute to society. I secured this position through a Malaysian job placement agency specializing in Japanese companies, as well as through networking with contacts in both Japan and Malaysia.
Do you feel your learning in FILA helps you in work? How?
Absolutely! My learning in FILA helps me gain transferable skills in my workplace. My understanding from the statistics class is to display quantitative data at work. I’ve demonstrated public speaking through the confidence and leadership skills I’ve learned in classes at FILA. The rigorous English classes I’ve taken have equipped me to understand almost anything easily, even unfamiliar topics. Moreover, as an international student in FILA, the Japanese language skills I’ve gained from enrolling in Japanese language classes also help me.
