【FILA】Students at International Conference in Malaysia

On Thursday, October 23, three students from our Faculty of International Liberal Arts gave a presentation at an international conference held locally.

The "International Undergraduate Conference (IUC) 2025," organized by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Malaya for undergraduate students, was attended by students from around the world, including Malaysia, Japan, China, South Korea, the United States, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and more. A total of 76 research presentations were made during the conference.

From our Faculty of International Liberal Arts, three students—Mr. Kazuyuki Nakahira, Ms. Sachie Numata, and Ms. Mako Takao—gave a joint presentation on the theme "Exploring Malaysian university students' morality towards shaping a multi-cultural society unity concept."
Throughout the conference, there were not only student presentations but also cultural experiences like traditional Malaysian dance, lectures by local professors, and a tour of Kuala Lumpur.

Below is a reflection from one of the participating students:

"Two major things stood out to me from participating in this international conference.
The first is that, since this conference was not focused on a specific field, there were many new topics I encountered for the first time. I realized my own lack of knowledge while also broadening my perspectives. For example, I learned a lot from diverse presentations, including research on the historical analysis of politics and religion in Turkey, studies on organizations supporting visually impaired people through social issues, and research exploring policies for achieving a sustainable society. I clarified my own areas of interest and felt that, if there are opportunities for future international conferences or research presentations, I would actively participate to expand my knowledge and expertise.

The second thing was that I felt a sense of closure in the International Fieldwork activities, which began in December last year. We conducted the survey with four people: the three who participated this time, added to Hanae Okuda. During our two-week fieldwork, we were always thinking about how to develop our research into future activities, rather than just ending it with a single study. As a result, we were able to attend this international conference, and I feel that it was made possible thanks to the support of many people. I am especially grateful for the help of Dean Ichiro Sugimoto in FILA, Professor Hanafi from the University of Malaya, and Mr. Hilmi, Director of the Student Entrepreneurship Centre at the University of Malaya, among many others who made this opportunity possible. Moving forward, I believe it's our turn to pass on what we've learned to our juniors, and I hope to help students who are interested in participating.

The IUC will also be held next year, and the application is open to everyone! I encourage any student with even a small interest to challenge themselves and apply."
