Why did you choose Soka University and FILA?

I chose Soka University and the Faculty of International Liberal Arts (FILA) because their educational philosophy strongly matches my own values and goals. Soka University emphasizes the idea of fostering global citizens who contribute to peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding. This mission deeply attracted me, as I believe education should not only provide knowledge but also shape responsible, compassionate individuals who can positively impact society. FILA’s curriculum is especially appealing because it combines liberal arts education with a strong international perspective. Courses are taught in English and encourage critical thinking, open discussion, and cross-cultural communication. In today’s globalized world, these skills are essential. I want to understand global issues from multiple viewpoints and learn how different cultures, histories, and values interact. Studying here will challenge you academically, but it will also help you grow emotionally and socially. You will learn how to communicate across cultures, think from multiple perspectives, and develop confidence in an international environment.

How did you find FILA?

I first learned about the Faculty of International Liberal Arts through a Chinese social media application called Red Note (Xiaohongshu). While browsing posts related to studying abroad and university life in Japan, I came across a post introducing Soka University and FILA. The post described the international environment, English-taught programs, and the university’s focus on global citizenship, which immediately caught my attention. After that, I decided to search for more detailed and reliable information. I visited Soka University’s official website and carefully read about FILA’s curriculum, admission requirements, student life, and educational philosophy. The more I researched, the more interested I became. The website provided clear explanations of the program  structure, course content, and learning outcomes, which helped me understand what studying at FILA would be like. I also watched videos and read testimonials from current students and alumni. Their experiences gave me a realistic picture of academic life, campus culture, and the supportive learning environment. Seeing students from different countries studying together and engaging in discussions reinforced my desire to apply.

What are your impressions of student life at FILA?

My impression of student life at FILA is that it is both academically challenging and personally enriching. The university provides high-quality classes that encourage students to think critically, express their opinions, and engage in meaningful discussions. Classes are interactive rather than lecture-centered, which allows students to actively participate and learn from one another. One of the most impressive aspects of student life at FILA is the international environment. Students come from many different countries and cultural backgrounds, creating a truly global campus. This diversity makes daily interactions interesting and educational, even outside the classroom. Through group projects, presentations, and casual conversations, students naturally develop cross-cultural
communication skills. In addition to academics, FILA offers a balanced student life. There are various clubs, activities, and events that help students build friendships and relieve academic stress. The campus environment is calm, safe, and well-organized, which allows students to focus on both their studies and personal growth. Faculty members are supportive and approachable, and they genuinely care about students’ development. Overall, student life at FILA feels purposeful and inspiring. It is not only about earning a degree, but also about growing as an individual and learning how to live and cooperate in a global society.

What is your plan after graduation from FILA?

After graduating from FILA, my goal is to work for an international company in Japan. I am particularly interested in a workplace that values diversity, cross-cultural communication, and global collaboration. Japan’s international business environment offers many opportunities to apply the skills I am developing at FILA, such as English communication, critical thinking, and cultural understanding. Through my studies, I hope to gain a strong foundation in international affairs, global issues, and problem-solving. These skills will allow me to contribute effectively in a multinational team and adapt to different professional environments. I am also interested in continuing to improve my Japanese language ability, as I believe language is an important bridge for deeper cultural and professional integration. In the long term, I would like to take on roles that involve international coordination or cross-border projects. I want to act as a bridge between different cultures and perspectives, helping organizations operate more smoothly and responsibly in a global context.

Please give a message to prospective international students!

To all prospective international students, I would like to say that Soka University and FILA offer a truly special learning environment. Here, you are not only a student, but also a valued member of a global community. People come from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, yet they share a common spirit of peace, respect, and openness. At FILA, you can be yourself and grow at your own pace. You will meet people who are kind, supportive, and willing to listen. The campus encourages dialogue rather than conflict, understanding rather than judgment. If you believe in peace and love, this is a place where those values are not just words, but are practiced in daily life. Studying here will challenge you academically, but it will also help you grow emotionally and socially. You will learn how to communicate across cultures, think from multiple perspectives, and develop confidence in an international environment. If you are looking for a university where you can study seriously while also becoming a more compassionate and open-minded person, FILA is a wonderful choice. I hope you will take this step with courage and curiosity, and begin a meaningful journey here.
