【FILA】Accepted to Graduate School!

Lee Geon (4th year)

Congratulations on your acceptance to graduate school! What motivated you to decide to pursue graduate studies?

Personally, I have been loving to watch and play football for 11 years. Based on my hobbies, I realized that my heart was beating, and I felt happiness from this sport. Football inspired me to get a dream that I work at a professional football club in London, UK. As we know, football was originated from the UK, and I really wanted to study and work where it was started from.

During senior period, I analyzed and studied about revenue generation from professional clubs in the EPL between performance and media visibility for my capstone to confirm what clubs should focus on making money. However, beyond this theme, I am admiring to contribute my ambition and play a crucial role at the actual industry to make football sustainable for a long time. That is why I decided to go to graduate university and got an offer from Loughborough University London campus.

Lastly, we live this live just once so that I really wanted to do what I want and be proud of myself. That time I focused on enrolling was really important for my future and I tried to concentrate on what I needed to do by thinking it is the only one that really mattered in my life. I am really thankful that I could make it come true.

What inspired you to enroll in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts at Soka University?

Personally, I love speaking and writing English as much as I play and watch football. That was why I decided to enroll in FILA without hesitation. For me, taking classes and interacting with others in English was so fascinating that I enjoyed spending my time in FILA so much. Moreover, this faculty has had its own special curriculum, which is studying abroad. I believed that this opportunity would make me grow and broaden my perspectives from different background. Additionally, I realised that I could learn English itself beyond something that I know. Personally, the environment that I can use English as much as I can and need to make me decide to study in the FILA.

What is your most memorable experience during your time in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts?

I would say every moment that I experienced in the FILA was memorable and precious to me, but if I need to choose one of them, I will say when I did a group project with other international and Japanese friends. It sounds quite boring or hard to understand, but for me, it was a happy moment by having a conversation and sharing ideas in English. While we had discussions or meetings, we laughed, got closer, and good grades from the lectures. In this process, it was able to comprehend how we all thought in a different way based on cultural background and to learn from each other even we are the same FILA student.
Personally, it is impossible to buy this experience with money and what I felt from this memory is so valuable that I couldn’t imagine I forget my friends and mood.

How would you like to spend your time after entering graduate school?

First of all, I am thinking of experiencing British lifestyle such as manners, how to spend time, something special at there. After then, I will take an internship opportunity to work in real place and feel how it is going for my future career. I am not going there to rest or enjoy my time, but I will learn how to survive in unfamiliar atmosphere. Thankfully, there is a collaborative project with professional clubs in curriculum from my major, so I will use this chance and consider it as a priceless experience.

Moreover, as I said earlier, I want to analyze and study how the football industry goes well and sustainably for a long time by predicting something that clubs need to focus on deeply. By doing so, I will spend my time to delve into this theme with other friends and professors who can help me in professional networks.

Please send a message to prospective international students!

I know how you will feel and experience as international students in the FILA and Japan. It is pretty sure that it would be much harder and more stressful than you would think. However, it is significant to know that we all have our own ability, possibility, and potential that can make everything come true.

It is important to set your goal what you really love or want to do in the future. It might be hard to realize them, and for me, I am sure that the faculty of international liberal arts will help you discover and go journey for your future career. Every task, assignment, and exam is valuable, so do not give up and keep going forward thinking of certainty that you can accomplish what you want with our university’s moto (discover your potential).

Even though it will be hard and you will face stressful things, I am sure that we all can overcome and grow ourselves. I always hope you do your best wherever and whenever you have to and not to be afraid what you face. Keep going and believe in yourself!
