Professor Yukio Maeda of Faculty of Law gives a lecture at the University of Basel in Switzerland

Professor Yukio Maeda of Faculty of Law was invited to give a lecture at the University of Basel in Switzerland on Wednesday, March 5th.
Professor Maeda gave a lecture entitled "Planet Politics 2.0: Potential Contribution from Japan" at an event held by the European Institute for Global Studies. Discussions of planetary politics have been around since 2015, and now that 10 years have passed, the focus of the lecture was on what kind of research could be developed as part of Planet Politics 2.0.
After the lecture, Professor Maeda said, "Not only was the Institute's Director, Professor Corey Ross, providing wonderful, thought-provoking comments on my lecture, but it was also very inspiring to see so many young researchers from the Institute participate in the lecture and engage in lively Q&A sessions afterwards. I feel that there is potential for research collaboration in the future."
Regarding the city of Basel, he said, "As this was my first time in Switzerland, after the lecture I had the opportunity to see Hotel Les Trois Rois, where Napoleon signed the peace treaty at the end of the French Revolutionary Wars. I was also taken to the building of the University of Basel where the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche actually gave lectures, albeit for a short period of time. I was impressed by the way the city itself retains its history, as if it were recording the rings of a tree."
