Journey of Growth at SIPS: Transforming Passion into Global Action

Tulika Mehra, from India, has over 20 years of experience in the social sector, focusing on youth employability and community development. After nearly two decades of working with underserved youth in India, she sought to explore global citizenship and inspire young people to embrace it. Motivated by Dr. Ikeda’s vision, Tulika pursued her studies at Soka University, aiming to further the ideals of global peace through humanistic education. Her passion for human and animal rights led her to the SIPS program in 2021

Returning to education after 15 years was both challenging and rewarding for Tulika, as it expanded her worldview through interactions with younger, diverse students. The academic demands and personal experiences at SIPS strengthened her values, deepened friendships, and fostered significant personal growth. The program equipped her with the knowledge and skills necessary to design a course for underserved youth, incorporating global citizenship to create a more holistic learning experience. Besides this, following her graduation, she is now also supporting the NGO she is associated with, known as NIIT Foundation, in developing a leadership program for women employees, helping them break the glass ceiling and advance in their careers.
Tulika’s message to current and future SIPS students is to engage fully with professors and fellow students, seizing every opportunity to enhance your learning and self-reflection. Despite the challenges you may face, don’t give up; these experiences will profoundly shape your perspective and remind you of the fortune in your journey. Everyone’s journey is different, and the SIPS program offers a great opportunity to grow and develop your skills across diverse subjects. You will discover just how strong you truly are.
