Associate Professor Dr. Minwyelet Mingist Zerihun of Bahir Dar University visited Japan

From August 5 to 20, 2023, Dr. Minwyelet Mingist Zerihun, an Associate Professor of Bahir Dar University, visited three research institutes on the Japanese side. Dr. Zerihun is the Theme 3 leader on Ethiopian side of the SATREPS-EARTH Project.
   On August 7th, he visited Soka University, made a courtesy call on President Masashi Suzuki and toured the university campus and EARTH project-related laboratories. In the evening, he gave a lecture titled “Freshwater Fish Diversity in Ethiopia: Research Efforts, Challenges and Opportunities” to the Faculty of Science and Engineering, at Soka University. He mentioned issues and demands to protect plenty water resource and use sustainably in Ethiopia. A lot of graduate students asked engaging questions during the Q&A session.
   He also visited the University of Shiga prefecture (USP) on August 8 and the Lake Biwa Environmental Research Institute (LBERI) on August 9. He spent fulfilling time with the lecture and the meeting.
   The return date to Ethiopia was suddenly postponed from August 13 because of deterioration of public order in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia and that was irregular situation. However, the close communication between JICA and related people enabled the visit safely.
   He was able to have open dialogues and discussions by seeing researchers on the Japanese side face to face, and that created the meaningful visit for both him and us.
