Handover of the portal system for water hyacinth management

On September 19, a handover of the “Regional Observational Portal System (ROPS)”, developed as part of the SATREPS-EARTH Project, was conducted at Soka University.
The system was developed primarily by Mr. Robel Milashu Ashenafi, a doctoral student in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, together with other members of Theme 1.
ROPS enables users to monitor and manage data transmitted from an observation buoy and a meteorological station installed around Lake Tana in Ethiopia.
During the handover session, Mr. Robel explained the system’s features and demonstrated its operation. He and Prof. Victor then officially handed over a laptop with ROPS installed to Dr. Solomon Addisu Legesse, the Project Manager from Bahir Dar University.
The system will be installed at Bahir Dar University under Dr. Solomon’s supervision and will be managed and operated locally in Ethiopia. This transfer marks an important step toward establishing a sustainable, locally led observation framework for Lake Tana’s aquatic environment, contributing to the continued advancement of research.
