Theme 4: Researchers visited spirulina-related companies in Japan

On September 24 and 25, Theme 4 members and Ms. Nadia Abate, General Manager of Mulmul Bakery, visited spirulina-related companies in Japan.

Mulmul Bakery has been collaborating with the SATREPS-EARTH Project through the development and test sales of spirulina-fortified cookies under Theme 4. From the Japanese side, Theme 4 Leader Prof. TAKAGI Isao (Soka University (SU)), three members of Mitsubishi UFJ Research & Consulting Company (MURC) involved in the project, and Project Coordinator Mr. HIRATA Yoshiyuki (SU) participated. 

On September 24, they visited DIC Corporation, which supplies spirulina for a wide range of uses including supplements, food products, animal feed, and colorants. 


On September 25, they visited Chitose group, which was the technical advisor and exhibitor for the Japan Pavilion (Algae) at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, as well as Hutte, a bakery located in Ota, Tokyo. 


At each site, the group exchanged views on the utilization of Spirulina in food products and discussed possibilities for future product development.
