Soka University Cherry Tree planted by the University Founder Daisaku Ikeda on the day of the Soka University Completion Ceremony in full bloom
The Global Square was completed in 2013 as a new symbol embodying the philosophy of “student-centered university.”
As it steadily executed the plans set forth in the Grand Design, in 2014, Soka University was selected for the Top Global University Project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). In reaching its 50th anniversary, Soka University embarked on its path through the next 50 years as “A university that fosters ‘global citizens’ that can create value,” aiming to foster capable individuals who can sincerely face global issues and boldly challenge toward realizing peace.

2013|Completion of the Global Square
“The environment for providing student-centered education is now in place and students can actively learn to their full potential. I cannot help thinking how happy Mr. Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, the founding father of Soka Education, and Mr. Josei Toda would be to see the University today. I can almost see their big smiles.”
(Message sent from Ikeda for Soka Glory Meeting, October 2013)
Facilities That Embody the Principle of “Student-Centered” University
“In most universities, the upper floors of the school building are occupied by research offices and do not have any lounges or seminar rooms where students can gather. However, here in the Global Square, there is a lounge on each floor and plenty of space is provided for students to sit down and have a chat or study.” (Interview to President Baba in 2018)
