The John Dewey Society of Japan Bulletin No. 66 has been published ―Contains the academic outcomes from the 67th Annual Conference held at Soka University―
The 66th issue of the John Dewey Society of Japan Bulletin has been published. This issue features the contents of the 67th John Dewey Society of Japan Annual Conference held at Soka University last year, and is highly valued as it presents the latest research results related to Dewey research.
The issue opens with an article by Prof. Ryota Yaginuma, Director of the Society and Professor at Gifu University, titled “John Dewey and Tsunesaburo Makiguchi: Centering on Comparative Examination of their Educational Thoughts.” It examines in detail, the intersection of the educational ideology of these two, who held important views regarding the 20th-century educational ideas, evaluating the theoretical significance of Makiguchi’s pedagogy in an academic way.
Deputy Director Takao Ito (Director of the John Dewey Research Center at Soka University), who chaired the organizing committee for last year's conference, stated the following:
“Through holding the conference at Soka University, we realized that Dewey studies, Japanese educational practices, and philosophical inquiry are connected in multifaceted ways. The results are clearly reflected in this Bulletin. We hope to continue collaborating with domestic and international researchers to open up new horizons for Dewey studies.”
