MEXT Foreign Student Priority Placement Special Program
Sustainability Practical Professional Training Program
Based on its selection for the 2025 MEXT Special Program for Priority Placement of Government-Sponsored Foreign Students, the Department of Green Technology in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Soka University is pleased to announce that Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship [University Recommendation (Special Slot)] for the “Sustainability Practical Professional Training Program” is open for application. This recruitment is for international students enrolling as regular students in April 2027.
Through participation in the International Technical Cooperation Educational Program, internships, and international collaborative research projects, this program aims to develop global, practical environmental leaders. Students will acquire the essential knowledge, practical skills, and international competencies required to establish a circular economy and contribute to the construction of a sustainable society.

*Unlike Embassy-recommended MEXT Scholarship Students (Undergraduate), participants in this program will not undergo preparatory Japanese language training at a specialized institution after arrival in Japan.

Admission eligibility
- Must hold the citizenship of the designated country for this program.
- Applicants must apply through the “Soka University Document-based Undergraduate Admission for International Students, April Entry” or “Overseas Designated School Recommendation Admission for partner schools.” Only those who are committed to enrolling in the Department of Green Technology, Faculty of Science and Engineering upon acceptance are eligible.
- Applicants must meet the qualifications and conditions for MEXT Scholarship Students (Undergraduate) as stipulated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (nationality, age, academic background, GPA/Academic Performance Coefficient, visa/residence status, etc.). However, regarding language requirements, applicants must meet the criteria specified in section (IV) below in addition to the MEXT standards. - Applicants must meet one (1) of the following language proficiency requirements. All scores must have been obtained within two years of the application date.
- Applicants who have passed Level N2 or higher of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
- Applicants who possess a score equivalent to CEFR B2 or higher in English, and who also possess a score equivalent to CEFR A1 or higher in Japanese (JLPT N5 equivalent) from the following tests:
- Japanese Proficiency Tests: JLPT, BJT, J.TEST, NAT-TEST, STBJ, TOPJ, J-cert, JLCT, PJC Bridge, JPT.
- If you have completed an educational curriculum (high school or secondary education) that satisfies the requirements for university admission in Japan with English as the primary language of instruction, and you do not hold the English proficiency scores mentioned above, please submit your official academic transcripts from that curriculum.
Designated Countries
Mainly targeting Southeast Asia and Latin America, though applications from other regions are also accepted.

Selection process and announcement of application results
Selection will be based on a comprehensive assessment of the documents submitted at the time of entrance examination, entrance examination results, and the results of the online interview conducted for this program.
The selection results will be notified via email in mid-December 2026, separately from the announcement of the Soka University Entrance Exam for International Students results.
Scholarship period
Within the standard period of study for the program (4 years) after arrival in Japan.

Admission fees and Tuition Fees
University admission fees as well as tuition fees are exempted for successful applicants of MEXT scholarship.

Others
In addition to the three (3) MEXT scholarship students, this special program will recruit three (3) privately financed international students as well. Privately financed students will be selected through the various entrance examinations for international students conducted by the university.
