留学日記（春季研修インド・セントスティーブンスカレッジ 2018年3月9日）
＜learning beside class＞
We have last only 5 day in India. I become missing India recently.
We got up at 6:30 and have breakfast at 7:30. There were boiled eggs on the table. Then, a member, chobi-san asked prof. Williams why those egg yolks were white. Most egg yolks in Japan are vivid yellow or orange. We thought that is natural thing. But he told us the vivid color of yolks appear because of chicken’s feed including coloring like paprika. We tend to not notice our arrogance on other lives. And other member, Kan-chan talked about child labor problem. It was the story that many girls have to make cotton for a little money without school education in South India. Then, prof.Williams asked her where the story in South India, and how many girls are working, and how she can help them. He told us deep searching and planning are important.
After that, we prepared for presentation. It's difficult to collect reliable informations in internet.
In lunchtime, we ate not spicy chicken. It seemed be for foreigners like us. It was delicious.
The topic of today’s class was “Introduction to Indian History”. We learned Indian History from Paleolithic period to age of great navigations. In Magada, King Ashoka extended his territory widely with wars, however he changed his mind and he governed his empire peacefully with Buddhism. I want to know why his mind changed.
When we were waiting car which bring us to Guest House after class, a monkey came near us. I tried to take a photo of him because such opportunity is rare in Japan. However prof.Williams saw me, and said “Don't go near monkey! He might bite you! ” I am used to touch animals, but I am stranger here. I learned that I must have caution.
At tea time in Guest House, professor’s friend showed us a video of Indian popular music. It was mysterious sound for me. In the dinner, staff made same chicken to one of lunch. However it seemed be delicious for other foreigners too, it was sold out soon. We finally could not eat it. Tama-chan, a member who like the chicken looked very sad.
We can Learn in ever trivial things beside class.
