Health education to prevent obesity by nurse in theUS

How nurses provide health education of obesity prevention in the United States where there is an increase in prevalence of obesity?
Field Research

According to the Gallup-poll, "Nursing is the most trustworthy profession in the United States, with 82% of American ranking nurses' honesty and ethical standards as high or very high." Moreover, nursing has been the most popular profession. I believe that nurses can effectively influence on people's health. Through interviewing nurses whom I meet at various opportunities such as in the lectures at UCSF and hospital visits, This research was to describe roles of nurses as health educators and how they support and encourage people in the process of behavior change of obese people.
Learning

Through conducting interviews to nurse practitioners (NPs) and public health nurses, I found out that nurses never blame people's behavior but they support the patients decisions making processes. Their compassionate support effectively influenced and ultimately lead to the positive changes. One of the most important roles of nurses was to give people health education. Nurses take more time closer to their patients compare to other health professionals. An interviewee said in San Francisco there were many different health promotions; for example, parks support physical activities for health every Sunday. Through my research I concluded that compassion as the bases of patient-centered-care the US nurses provided may have been the key factors to having trust among the citizens. Obesity has become a serious social problem in the United States last 30 years. The reasons why people have become overweight or obese may have been linked to more complex issues and they may not have been able to control by themselves. Promoting individual behavioral change alone might not be enough to solve the obesity problem.
