【FILA】 Gratitude to my Parents #18

Mr. Takuya Morimitsu
Faculty of International Liberal Arts

What feelings would you like to convey to your parents now?

I just want to say thank you to my parents. They have always supported me, both mentally and financially. Without their support, I would never have had the courage to study abroad in Australia, Malaysia, and Vietnam during my student years. While they usually gave me the freedom to live independently, they were always there for me, even from a distance, sending medicine and offering support whenever I fell ill. When I decided to stop my job hunting and pursue my dream of becoming a Japanese teacher, they immediately supported me, and that gave me the determination to move forward toward my dream. Now, I can truly say that entering Soka University was one of the best decisions I've made.

Do you have any impressive memories of your parents in your FILA life?

During my first overseas experience in Australia, I faced a gap between my ideals and reality, and encountered many challenges. At one point, I even considered quitting university. During that time, my parents simply told me, "Do whatever you feel is best." Those words made me realize that I had always only followed what others told me to do, and it gave me the determination to start making my own decisions. About six months later, during the Soka University Festival, my parents came to visit me. Seeing me speak with international students in English and talk about my experiences abroad, my parents were so moved that they cried with joy. I felt like I had finally repaid them. From that moment, I became even more determined to show them that I would continue to challenge myself in many ways.
