The 13th Seminar of IRISE was held

Assistant Professor Alexandar Jordan

On January 23, 2023, the 13th Seminar of IRISE was held in person. The institute invited Dr. Alexandar Jordan, a specialist on the research of Carlyle, and currently on a research trip at the university, to deliver a lecture.

Title: Reflections of Ikeda Daisaku’s reading on Thomas Carlyle
Dr. Alexandar Jordan (Metropolitan University Prague, Czech Republic, Assistant Professor of Anglophone Studies)

Dr. Jordan traced the history of Carlyle's reception in modern Japan, including Inazo Nitobe, Kanzo Uchimura, Takeo Arishima, and Doppo Kunikida, and discussed the highlights of the founder’s reading on Carlyle.

Students and faculty members of the institute participated in the seminar, and a meaningful discussion was held after the presentation.
