Leave of Absence, Re-admission and Withdrawal

1.標準修業年限・在学期間・在籍期間について
Semesters required for graduation, Period of Study and the Period of Enrollment

標準修業年限は、本学を卒業するために必要な期間で、4年(通算8セメスター)と定めています。なお、学部により早期卒業(3年間もしくは3年半)を認める場合があります。

在学期間は、本学に在学できる期間で、休学期間を除き8年間(通算16セメスター)と定めています。在籍期間は、在学期間と休学期間を含めた期間(最大12年間:24セメスター)と定めています。

In principle, 4 years (8 semesters) are required for graduation at Soka University. Although standard university education is a four year system, we have an early graduation system, allowing students with excellent grades to graduate in their third year or 3 years and a half.

The period of study indicates the number of semesters in which the degree of your study program can be completed. At Soka University, it is 8 years (16 semesters) without the period of leave of absence. Regarding the period of enrollment, students can be enrolled for up to 12 years (24 semesters) with the period of leave of absence.

2.休学について / Leave of Absence

経済事情・留学・病気・ケガなどで休学を希望する場合は、休学願を提出し許可を得て休学することができます。

If you wish to take leave of absence due to unavoidable reasons such as illness or financial reasons, you are able to apply for a leave of absence.

(1)休学の手続 / How to apply?

休学の手続きは、所定の休学願(教務課窓口で配布)に保証人連署のうえ、必要事項を記入し、教務課に提出してください。

You need to fill out the application form for taking a leave of absence (cosigning by a guarantor) and submit it to the Academic Affairs Office.

(2)休学の期間 / The Period of Leave of Absence

休学の期間は、1セメスターまたは1年間(2セメスター)です。
Students able to take a leave of absence from the Soka university for a semester or the whole academic year (two semesters).

(4)休学中の修業年限・在学期間
Semesters required for graduation and the period of study under the leave of absence

休学期間は修業年限や在学期間に算入されません。ただし、標準在学期間の4年間在学しないと在学期間不足のため卒業できません。従って、休学すると卒業が遅れます。

The periods of leave of absence from school are not included in the calculation of either years to graduate and the period of study. Therefore, graduation will be delayed for the period of absence for students who take a leave of absence from school.

(5)休学期間と学年 / Academic year level under the period of leave of absence

休学期間であっても、進級します。例えば、1年生が半年間あるいは1年間休学しても、翌年度の学年は2年生となります。
Students are promoted to the subsequent academic year level, regardless of whether they are under the period of a leave of absence. For example, a first year student who takes a leave of absence for either half an academic year or the entire academic year will be a second year student the following year.

(6)休学中の授業料 / Academic fee during the period of leave of absence

休学中の授業料は次の通りです。
Students are exempt from having to pay tuition while on a leave of absence; however, they are required to pay a matriculation fee instead as below.

(7)休学期間の延長 / Extension of the period of leave of absence

休学期間の延長を希望する場合は、休学願を再度提出し、許可を得なければなりません。ただし、引き続き2年(4セメスター)を超えての休学はできません。また、休学は、通算4年(8セメスター)を超えることもできません。

Students wishing to extend the period of their leave of absence must submit an application for taking a leave of absence again and obtain approval from the university as well. However, students cannot take a leave of absence for more than two consecutive years (four semesters). The total time allowed for leave of absence must not exceed four years in total (eight semesters).

(8)休学終了後の復学 / Returning to school after leave of absence

休学期間満了時点で、自動的に復学になります。通常どおり学期始めのオリエンテーションへの出席や履修登録等の手続を行ってください。
Your enrollment will resume automatically upon expiration of the leave of absence period, and procedures are not required for returning to school. Therefore, please check orientation schedules and register for classes at the beginning of the semester as usual.

(9)その他 / The others

(ア)病気による休学については、医師の診断書が必要です。
(イ)私費留学による休学については、留学先の入学許可書(写し)を添付してください。
(ウ)休学が許可された場合、休学許可書が送付されます。
(エ)休学する際は教務課職員とよく相談ください。

(a)If you need to take a leave of absence due to illness, we may ask you to submit a medical document issued by hospital.
(b)If you need to take a leave of absence due to studying abroad, please submit an admission letter issued by an overseas university.
(c)If your application for taking a leave of absence is approved, we will send you a notification about the approval.
(d)If you need to take a leave of absence, please consult with the staff in the Academic Affairs Office in advance.

3.退学について / Withdrawal

(1)自主退学 / Voluntary withdrawal

退学には、自主退学と命じられての退学(強制退学)があります。自主退学の手続は、所定の退学願(教務課窓口で配布)に保証人連署の上、学生証を添付して教務課に提出してください。なお、退学を願い出る者はその学期の学費を完納していなければなりません。

There are two types of the withdrawal at Soka university. One is a voluntary withdrawal, and the other one is a disciplinary withdrawal. In the case of a voluntary withdrawal, a student must submit a completed ‘Withdrawal application (cosigning by a guarantor)’ along with his/her student ID card. Even in the case of leaving in the middle of the semester, the academic fees for that semester must be paid.

(2)強制退学 / Disciplinary withdrawal

下記の者は退学を命じられます。
(ア)学則第5条第3項による者(在学期間8年満了)
(イ)学則第10条第2項による者(未履修)
(ウ)学則第11条の2第2項による者(入学後4年間40単位未満)
(エ)学則第42条による者(学費未納)
(オ)学則第46条による者(懲戒)

Cases of disturbing the order of university or acting in a manner contrary to a student`s duty may be designated disciplinary withdrawal. in the event of a violation of these regulations, disciplinary action will be imposed.
(a) Those who do not observe the Soka University Regulations in section 5 (3).
(b) Those who do not observe the Soka University Regulations in section 10 (2).
(c) Those who do not observe the Soka University Regulations in section 11 (2).
(d) Those who do not observe the Soka University Regulations in section 42.
(e) Those who do not observe the Soka University Regulations in section 46.
各種証明書の発行について
Issuing certificates
退学した場合でも、本人の申請により、成績証明書・在籍期間証明書・退学証明書などの証明書の発行を受けることができます。
Even though you leave from school, you will be able to apply for issuing certificates such as a transcript, a certificate of the period of enrollment and a certificate of withdrawal etc.

4.再入学について / Re-admission

本学を退学し再入学を願い出た者には、選考のうえ許可することがあります。ただし、在学期間8年満了者には出願資格がありません。出願後は、学生部委員会並びに学部教授会で審査を行います。(詳しくは教務課にご相談ください)

The university may allow former students, who withdrew from the university previously but have applied for re-admission, to re-enroll in the school after screening. The Student Affairs Committee will review applications, along with the relevant faculty council. However, those who exceeded 8 years of the maximum number of the period of study. For more details about the re-admission, please contact the Academic Affairs Office.

再入学できる資格
Qualifications on applying for re-admission
退学後4年以内の者。ただし、強制退学となった者については退学後2年以内となります。
In case of voluntarily withdrawal from school (excluding non-payment of academic fees), those who are more than a half of year and less than four years from the date of withdrawal from school. However, In case of voluntarily withdrawal without paying academic fees or in case of disciplinary withdrawal, those who are more than a half of year and less than two years from the date of withdrawal from school.
再入学時の条件
Qualifications when proceeding re-admission
(1)再入学許可年度の授業料(半期分も可)を納入すること。
Re-admitted students will be requested to pay academic fees for the semester when proceeding re-admission. Admission fees will be exempted.
